well hello dearest friends and family,
welcome to the beginning of the beginning of a very great thing: the toporowski-hocking summer 2022 sailing adventure!
many of you have heard of this as our Trip To Alaska; however, we have decided to name it as another Summer of Sailing, in order to remove any pressure from ourselves to reach a particular destination. that being said, alaska is still the goal!!!! it all depends on the willingness of our smaller crew members and how much tolerance they have for time spent on a boat.
coming to the beginning of our journey, there is tremendous anticipation and excitement about such a grand change in our daily lives. imagining days spent exploring unknown places, sleeping in a new anchorage each night, searching for gems both large and small on and off the water - what could be greater?
but of course, there is too a notable amount of uncertainty and fear from all of us (except maybe the very smallest of the crew). are we prepared? will we be safe? will we have enough food? will we run out of money? will we bump into an iceberg? what about wildlife? and equipment? and toys? and birthdays? and friends? and? and? and?!
these unknowns, though, bring us to the very heart of adventure: facing fears and the great mysterious world in order to learn and grow as people, and as a family.
so it begins: a crew of four, dreaming to depart from Quadra Island's eastern shore and head off to explore this oh-so-rocky coast from one end to another - provided, of course, that we can get ourselves organised and in gear to actually get out the door... let the preparation begin!
